What is WEEE

Each year in the UK we generate 1.2 million tonnes of electrical waste, over 75% of which ends up in landfill sites. Toxins this waste contains can have a very harmful effect on the environment and human health.

In order to reduce the amount of electrical waste going to landfill the government introduced

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations

which came into force in 2007. We are a member of an approved WEEE compliance scheme.

Funds collected under these schemes are distributed between all Local Authorities in the UK to ensure they provide facilities for the disposal of electrical waste products.

WEEE Symbols

WEEE The 'Crossed out Wheelie Bin' with Bar
All electrical and electronic equipment made after 13 August 2005 should display this symbol on the packaging or the product.

The symbol indicates that the product should not be disposed of with normal household waste but taken to a collection site for recycling.
WEEE Battery Recycling
This symbol is very similar to the one above but does not have a bar at the bottom of the bin.  It was used on electrical and electronic equipment made before 13 August 2005. This symbol will be re-introduced in order to support the Battery Directive which will shortly become part of UK law.

The symbol indicates that the product should not be disposed of with normal household waste but taken to a collection site for recycling.

Scrap product return

When you buy a new mains electric mower from GGP UK Ltd you can return your old electric mower to us and we will dispose of it in a legal and environmentally friendly way.  You must return your old mower to us within 28 days of buying the new one.

Send it to GGP UK WEEE Returns Department, GGP UK Limited, Unit 8 Bluewater Estate, Bell Close, Plympton, Plymouth, PL7 4JH.  You must enclose a letter quoting the Online order number for your new mower plus your name and full address.  The cost of the return is your responsibility.

Alternatively we can arrange for the scrap mower to be collected from you; we charge £12.50 for this service.  To arrange a collection email us at online@ggpuk.com quoting the Online order number for your new mower plus your name and postal address.

How to recycle your WEEE

Don't dispose of electrical products with your normal household waste; use an electrical waste recycling centre. There is no charge for this service.

You can locate your local electrical waste recycling centre at http://www.recycle-more.co.uk/ - just enter your postcode in the “Bank Locator” and click the Search button. Alternatively your Local Authority will have details of WEEE Recycling Centres on their website.

Remember, recycling minimises the impact on our planet and protects the environment for future generations.
